Dot NAME Domain Names

Established in 2001, the .NAME gTLD is the only one planned for personal web pages only. These domain names can include personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other titles people are known by. At the beginning, only 3rd-level registrations were permitted, so if you wanted to reserve john.doe.name, you would have to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already bought third-level names remained online.
